Our B Corp Journey: Raising the Bar for Better Business

Our B Corp Journey: Raising the Bar for Better Business

We’re proud to announce that we are among the very first UK businesses to certify under B Lab’s new standards for B Corp Certification.

For more than 30 years, we’ve grown as a family-run business in Cornwall, guided by a belief that business should be done responsibly, with care for our people, our customers, our suppliers and the natural world around us.

Now, we’re proud to be among the first UK businesses to certify under B Lab’s new, more rigorous standards for B Corp Certification.

A milestone in our journey. And a commitment to keep moving forward.

A higher bar for better business

B Lab’s new standards represent the biggest evolution in B Corp Certification to date.

They raise expectations for businesses and create a clearer, shared baseline for responsible business, with every B Corp required to meet minimum requirements across seven areas of impact.

  • Purpose & Stakeholder Governance
  • Climate Action
  • Fair Work
  • Human Rights
  • Government Affairs & Collective Action
  • Environmental Stewardship & Circularity
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Certification also brings greater accountability through independent verification and requirements to demonstrate continued progress over time.

For us, choosing to recertify under these standards was about more than maintaining our B Corp status, it was about challenging ourselves to keep raising the bar.

Why B Corp matters to St Eval

Better business has always been part of our story.

We’re a family-run Cornish business, grown steadily over more than 30 years.

Our surroundings have always shaped who we are. On a farm nestled in the Cornish countryside, surrounded by the natural landscapes that inspire us, we feel keenly the responsibility that comes with being a responsible business.

That means thinking carefully about how we make things, who we work with, the people behind our products and the impact our decisions have on the world around us.

Looking deeper across our value chain

One of the most valuable parts of recertifying under the new standards has been the opportunity to look even more deeply across our entire value chain.

We’ve always had strong relationships with our suppliers. The process has helped us build on those relationships, giving us greater visibility of the human and environmental impacts within our supply chain. It has also encouraged more two-way communication.

Rather than simply asking what our suppliers can do for us, we’re asking what we can do to make responsible choices easier for them too.

For us, this is what continuous improvement looks like in practice: listening, learning and finding better ways to work together.

A commitment to continuous improvement

A framework that challenges us to keep looking at our business honestly, measure our impact and find ways to improve.

Recertification is an important recognition of the work we’ve done so far, but it also sets the direction for where we go next.

What comes next?

Recertification isn’t the end of the journey.

The new B Corp standards introduce milestones at three and five years, reinforcing the idea that certification is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off achievement.

For St Eval, that means continuing to look for better ways to work, make and grow.

We’ll keep sharing what we’re learning, where we’re making progress and where there’s still work to do.

Because better business is never finished.
