Celebrating B Corp Month

Celebrating B Corp Month

Being a B Corp shapes how we operate, from the way we power our factory, to how we invest in the people and communities around us. March is B Corp Month, and in the spirit of that global celebration, we are taking the opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made across our three core pillars: People, Community, and Environment.

People

At St Eval, we are committed to creating a workplace that is fair, inclusive, and genuinely supportive of the wellbeing of every member of our team.

We remain a certified Real Living Wage employer, conduct regular employee engagement surveys, and continue to invest in both the personal and professional development of our staff. Our employee assistance programme supports mental health and wellbeing, and we work hard to ensure that every individual feels valued and heard.

This commitment extends beyond policies and programmes. This spring, we hosted a soup kitchen lunch here at St Eval, bringing the whole team together to share a meal, connect, and enjoy some well-deserved time in each other's company. It is the kind of occasion that speaks to the culture we are proud to have built.

Community

Our dedicated community committee, comprising team members from across the business, coordinates ongoing support for local and national causes. Each month, we donate our products to organisations and individuals who benefit most from them. We also maintain a long-standing volunteer partnership with People & Gardens C.I.C., a charity that harnesses the restorative power of horticulture to support wellbeing in the community.

Our partnership with GOALS House - an organisation committed to inclusion, opportunity, and sustainable development - continues to grow. These collaborations reflect our belief that business, when conducted with genuine purpose, can be a meaningful force for good.

Environment

The natural landscape of Cornwall is the foundation of everything St Eval creates. Our farm is not only a place of work - it is a thriving wildlife habitat, and one we are actively committed to protecting and enhancing.

The farm supports a remarkable diversity of species: wild bees foraging across our wildflower habitats, hedgehogs sheltering in our hedgerows, and harvest mice threading through the grassland. This year, members of our team participated in a bird count on the farm, formally recording the birds present and providing valuable data to track the impact of our ongoing conservation efforts.

Beyond the farm, we continue our partnership with Cornwall Wildlife Trust, supporting the Helman Tor nature reserve project with £150,000 in funding. This partnership is working towards the first ever release of beavers - an initiative that will significantly enhance wetland habitats and biodiversity.

Looking Ahead: Recertification in 2026

We are currently working through the B Corp recertification process, and we approach it with the same rigour and transparency that has guided our journey from the outset. Recertification is an opportunity to hold ourselves to account - to assess where we have made progress, and where further work is needed.

We are proud to hold a B Impact score of 85.3, significantly above the 50.9 median for ordinary businesses completing the assessment. However, our ambition does not stop there. We are committed to raising our standards across every pillar, and to ensuring that St Eval continues to lead by example in sustainable, responsible candle manufacturing.

We look forward to sharing the outcome of our recertification and to continuing this journey - for our people, our community, and the beautiful landscape we are fortunate to call home.
